They were both superstars alone and together. As Arts Editor at Essex County College, I also interviewd Henry Lewis, in their home in Orange when he was music Director of NJSymphony. They appeared with NJSO in Holmdel, and Horne did part of PRINCE IGOR in a memorable concert as well. Quite an experience for a 20 year old and I sti;ll have the interview.

Brings back my great in person memories of that night at Avery Fisher Hall in 1981. Never forget this magnificent pair and that green dress. Three giants lest we forget maestro Bonynge performing perhaps the greatest soprano mezzo duet in the Italian repertory. Thanks Michelle for making my day.

It's fascinating how singers find partners in their day with whom they create lasting relationships, thinking here of Sutherland and Horne, but also Sutherland and Pavarotti, chosen as much for his stature (compared to Sutherland's) as his voice. Or Callas and di Stefano, Flagstad and Melchoir, Fleming and Graham, Te Kanawa and von Stade - you can doubtless think of many more.

Actually most artists are inspired by each other and yearn to work togetjer as well. Then art moves forward with all us in that circle for the greater good.

A true duet seems to me one of the most challenging things to pull off, especially in the land of performers where egos run high. Thank you for this exquisite sample. A balm of beauty and musical nuance amidst the world events of the past week.
