This week's Opera Daily features The Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana
Maria was Santuzza in many respects; but NOT her best role.
It's a shame Mascagni's works, excepting this work, have fallen from the standard repertoire.
There are recordings with Freni and Pavarotti. Some are revived and heard in Italy like Leoncavallo. It would be simple to play the Leoncavallo score on a Boheme set even at the met,
Mascagni also worked w/ Mussolini at LaScala unfortunately.
